Devlog #1 - Story Work

Happy Friday! (No game update; just devlog stuff)

Just thought I'd share with you some progress notes on the game. I know the initial release that is available to play is ...lacking, to say the least. Combat is probably very unbalanced, along with nothing to really do in the world. But that will all change soon!

I've been fleshing out the first section of the story, which will involve the town of Mercana. (pictured) So far, without giving too much away, the start of this game will progress in a similar fashion to how you'd expect a fantasy RPG to. Clearing out a den of enemies! Well, you're told they're enemies. And you're told to clear them out. So you must!

As a developer, I'll admit that this aspect of game development is probably my least favorite. And that's because it's my weakest ability: storytelling. Sure, I could slap together a really basic story lifted from another IP, tweak the numbers and be good to go. But I'd like for this game to tell an interesting story, at least. Sure, it's probably gonna end up having story elements that are derivative or inspired by something else. But I want to make it a story that's worth exploring. Worth tapping keys to get to the next region or talk to an NPC. The gameplay itself is very basic, very limited. So I feel like the story should really shine here!

Thank you to everyone who's played the game so far! I know it's basically a tech demo but if you stick around, I hope you enjoy what it turns into.

Anyways, enough rambling. Until next time! I hope to have a proper game update for the first act soon!
